The Seacoast Spartans Hockey Club is dedicated to providing an ice hockey club that is focused on helping youth learn the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, commitment, self-esteem, discipline and responsibility right in our home rink located in Exeter, NH. The underlying goal of our program is to promote and instill these fundamental values within each individual to last for a lifetime.
Seacoast Spartans coaches stress skill development as a first priority followed by systems development, play making, and teamwork. Excellent coaching, highly-competitive league, and tournament competition and access to international programming all serve to “stretch” Seacoast Spartans players’ abilities and attitudes, building self esteem in a variety of areas. Every aspect of the Seacoast Spartans schedule, from player selection to practices to competition, is designed to help the individual improve as a student-athlete and person. Additional benefits include the expansion of life experience and the development of self-confidence, all while having fun with their friends!
The Seacoast Spartans Hockey Club will be bringing in many talented and promising junior student-hockey players to the Seacoast region. We are seeking host families to billet one or two players for the season. The season will begin in early September and run approximately until late March. There are holiday breaks in both November and in December, in which players return home.
As a long standing hockey tradition, hosting, or “billeting”, has helped many young student-athletes get acclimated to their new cities, schools, and teams. These families play an invaluable role in the lives of aspiring young athletes. These young student-athletes are pursuing their dream of playing top tier hockey across the Nation, and for many this is their first experience living away from home. By becoming a Host Family, you are not only giving a young student-athlete an extended family, but also providing them the support and structure needed to maintain focus on advancing their hockey career.
Billet families will receive a monthly stipend of $400 from the player to offset their food and housing costs. Although the billet families receive a monthly stipend during the time the player is billeting, the lasting relationships that are formed are often the more valued aspect of billeting. Often times the student-athlete enthusiastically becomes a “big brother” and “role model” for the younger student-athlete in the family. In many cases, in just a few short years, billet families find themselves sitting in the stands at a high level college hockey game, proudly watching and continuing to support that young college athlete who, due in big part to the tremendous effort offered by the people of his home away from home, has been able to climb to such a level .
As a Host Family, you will be required to:
- Be subject to prior standardized screening
- Provide a furnished room for the player or a furnished room to share with another billet player
- Provide nutritious meals to be prepared by the player or Host Family
- Provide access to a bathroom, as well as common-areas such as living rooms, laundry room, etc.
- Provide a caring and friendly home atmosphere
Players will be expected to:
- Follow all host family and team rules and show respect and consideration towards all family members
- Be responsible for their own meals on the road
- Be responsible for their own transportation
- Provide their own bed and bath linens, personal care items, cell phones, and computers
- Seek part-time employment or enroll in an academic institution
